Getting Started

How to create your bot application, invite it, and start it up.

Follow these steps to set up and start your bot.

## Requirements

- Node.js 20.x or 22.x LTS
- A Discord account with admin permissions on your server

## 1. Create your Discord Bot

1. Head over to the [Discord Developer Portal](https://discord.com/developers/applications).
2. Click **New Application**, give your bot a name, and create it.
3. Go to the **Bot** tab on the left.
4. Click **Reset Token** to generate your bot token and copy it somewhere safe.
5. Scroll down to **Privileged Gateway Intents** and enable all three:
   - Presence Intent
   - Server Members Intent
   - Message Content Intent
6. Click **Save Changes**.

## 2. Invite the Bot

1. In the developer portal, go to **Installation**.
2. Set **Install Link** to **Discord Provided Link**.
3. Under **Default Install Settings**, select `bot` and `application.commands`.
4. Set permissions to **Administrator**.
5. Copy the install link, paste it into your browser, and select your server.

## 3. Install & Start

Open your terminal in the bot's folder:

```bash
# Install dependencies
npm install
# Start the bot
npm start
```

On first startup, the bot will launch a local setup page at `http://localhost:25575/setup`. Open that link in your browser to enter your token, server ID, and staff roles.

You can also edit `Configs/supportbot.yml` directly if you prefer configuring via files.
